Today, July 17, 2016 is Gavin Long’s 29th birthday. The former Marine sergeant from Kansas City, Missouri, opened fire on police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He took the lives of Montrell Jackson, 32, and Matthew Gerald, 41, and Brad Garafola, 45, at around 8:45 a.m. in the Old Hammond area — less than a mile from police headquarters. One officer is in critical condition and the two others suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are being treated at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center at press time.

He was honorably discharged in August 2010 after five years of service and his final Marine rank was E-5.
