Tika Sumpter is pregnant.
On Friday, Aug. 12, the actress was spotted sporting a visible baby bump at the Southside With You press conference in Los Angeles. “Preggers and promoting w Legend. Happy and proud. #Southsidewithyou #Aug26th,” the 36-year-old wrote alongside a selfie featuring her upcoming rom com’s executive producer, John Legend.
Meanwhile, an insider close to the expectant actress tells People magazine OWN’s “The Haves and Have Nots” star is expecting a baby girl and will give birth some time in the fall. “She’s super happy,” the source continued.
Although little is known about the child’s father and “fall” is the best we can do for a due date, in the meantime, Sumpter’s highly anticipated role as FLOTUS is fast approaching. In her new film, Sumpter portrays young Chicago lawyer Michelle Robinson Obama, decades before she became the beloved first lady of the United States. The romantic drama focuses on the future POTUS, who takes a summer job at a Chicago law firm in 1989. There, he meets his boss, a young attorney named Michelle Robinson, who after some persistent wooing from Barack, agrees to spend the day with him on Chicago’s South Side.
While strolling through the Windy City — discussing their views on politics, participating in a little community service, viewing an art exhibit, and finally, catching a showing of Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing — the pair find they have a connection — a love connection. After nightfall, they share both an ice cream cone and a first kiss. That’s the gist of the film, Deadline reports.
Also starring in the film are Vanessa Bell Calloway, best known for her role as Eddie Murphy’s arranged wife in the 1988 cult comedy Coming to America and Jerod Haynes of Watch Dogs (2014), Animals (2014) and most recently, For the Cause (2013).
