The American Cancer Society launched its Inaugural Real Men Wear Pink campaign for the month of October in efforts to raise funds for the organization. The campaign consists of enlisting a group of 30 dedicated and distinguished community leaders with the same goal: to make a meaningful impact on a cause that means so much to so many people. The challenge, in addition to wearing pink every day during the month of October, is to raise $2500 each through their promotional website.

This past weekend the campaign continued during the final weekend the Braves would have home games in Atlanta and this would also be their last hoorah at Turner Field before moving into the new arena in Cobb County in 2017. A reception kicked off in a tent filled with breast cancer survivors and the opening ceremony began with two of the directors for the Braves introducing the president of the American Heart Association.

There was a touching speech by Sparkle, a nne-year breast cancer survivor. She spoke of her encounter with cancer and how her husband was the one who found the lump. Through early detection, she was able to have one of her breasts removed and refers to her new breast as her 2008 upgrade and the other her 1968 edition.

So far, the stats are in on who’s raising the most funds and we would like to congratulate the following in leading the race:

  1. Lee Duncan- $10,458
  2. Ricky Steele-$2,750
  3. Mike Elmer-$1,658
  4. Gary Reedy- $863
  5. The Strickland Family-$685
