Tamira M. Moon is a public health champion who is empowering others to live healthy lifestyles. In her current role as program director for Georgia’s Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, Moon is recognized for her ability to manage and implement innovative and effective public health projects to address health disparities at the local, state and national levels.

“I give a voice to cancer survivors,” said Moon, who organized Georgia’s first Statewide Cancer Survivorship Conference. “My ultimate goal is to lead Georgia toward its effort to become a national leader in cancer control.”


Through volunteer involvement, she enriches her community, devoting her time and talents to the United Way of Greater Atlanta, Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, 40 Girls and Some Shoes, Urban League of Greater Atlanta Young Professionals, and The Ohio State University Black Alumni Society. Upholding integrity, reaching back to help others succeed, and leaving a legacy are key success factors for Moon.

“Know your self-worth by investing in yourself first, as well as causes that will allow your investments to live beyond your existence on earth,” Moon advised. “In the words of the great Dr. Frank W. Hale Jr., ‘Commitment without cash is counterfeit’.”

An Ohio State University alum, earning a Bachelor of Science in early childhood development and Master of public health, Moon gives her academic background lots of credit for the skills she brings to her profession.

“My academic career at The Ohio State University was the training ground that equipped me with the classroom knowledge, hands-on experiences, leadership opportunities, and lifelong support network that prepared me for a purposeful career in public health,” she said.

The recipient of many awards and recognition offered words of encouragement for those following her career path.

“Identify a mentor and support system that has your best interest at heart,” said Moon.
