The organizers of Small Business Saturday in the City recently hosted their annual Small Business Saturday shopping event in Detroit to kickstart the holiday shopping experience. The event was held from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Horatio Williams Foundation located in downtown Detroit. The event, which was founded in 2012, was created with an objective of providing opportunities for small business owners in the city to sell their goods and services to the public.

According to organizers, who included Beard Nation, B. Risque, Chanel Domonique Management and Camille L. Gavin released a joint statement sharing that “Small Business Saturday was created to build a local kick-starter for business owners who are just starting out, looking for a boost in existing business, love networking with other business owners, or aren’t able to sell face-to-face with their audience. This was created to bridge gaps and boost confidence … On the consumer side, it’s always necessary to be aware of and support small businesses in and around town. We felt bringing it all under one roof would make it convenient and exciting during the holiday time.”

The event had a speaker panel component to it where several entrepreneurs shared their start up story and answered questions from the audience. Ebony Cochran of Blackwood Credit Services and Michelle Merritt of Nexus1 Marketing were two of the panelists that shared their stories at the event.

Small Business Saturday in the city was a successful event and will continue its tradition of encouraging shoppers to shop local for years to come.
