It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the D and major Detroit hip-hop artists continue to make giving back to their community a top priority. This holiday season, members of the renowned hip-hop groups Slum Village and D12 teamed up to spread a little holiday cheer to a couple of deserving metro Detroit families in need.

T3 of Slum Village shows that he is far from “selfish” as he teamed up with his wife Koffey Brown, radio personality of Hot 107.5 FM radio; Swifty McVay of famed hip-hop group D12 and McVay’s wife, Teresa Cregget-Moore, to host the first “Hip Hop Christmas” in metro Detroit on Sunday, Dec. 18. The event ended at a metro Detroit Toys “R” Us located in Roseville, Michigan.

The husband and wife hip-hop duos treated two lucky Detroit families with an afternoon of entertainment, groceries, and a shopping spree at Toys “R” Us. The private event was sponsored by 3iller LLC, and Eastpointe Carite owners Mark Horvath and Jeff Morris. Both T3 and McVay acknowledged that it is important to give back to their community as much as possible, and stated that they plan on making this event the first of many of its kind.

Most of us are familiar with Slum Village’s hit single “Selfish,” which featured Kanye West and John Legend in 2004. The album and single had done exceptionally well, until two unfortunate events occurred in following years. In 2006, original group member J Dilla died suddenly, followed by the death of another original group member “Baatin” in 2009, leaving only T3 to carry the weight of their legacy. T3 continues to pursue music despite the tragedies and is also set to release a solo project in 2017.
