Police officers around the world have used racist and inhumane actions against Black people. According to the Associated Press, a Black man in Paris was beaten and anally raped by police,

The incident occurred in a large Black community east of Paris. During an identity check in the community, the 22-year-old victim told reporters that police officers beat him and yelled racial slurs at him. At some point during the beating, one officer took his baton and shoved it inside  his rectum. Following the sexual assault, the victim was handcuffed, spat on and taken to jail.

While the victim was in jail, another officer saw his condition and took him to the hospital. The doctors discovered that the victim had a deep anal tear.

Once the media covered the incident, protests erupted in the streets. While some protests were nonviolent, cars were set on fire and buildings have been vandalized. Police have used tear gas over the past four days in an attempt to disperse the crowds. Five people have been arrested since the protests began.

The protests mirror the uprisings that have occurred in America following the killings of unarmed Blacks such as Trayvon Martin, Philando Castile, Sandra Bland and Eric Garner to name a few. It reveals how some police officers have abused their powers when it comes to encounters with unarmed Blacks. According to a report by Criminology & Public Policy, unarmed Blacks are twice as likely to be shot by police officers than unarmed Whites.

President Francois Hollande visited the Paris victim with the hopes of bringing calm to the community. Also, the police officers have since been arrested for the attack on the victim. The officer who raped the young man could face 20 years in prison.
