It’s Mardi Gras time, baby! Head to Mobile, Alabama

CULTURE
Alabama Contemporary Art Center
Indulge in the arts. Located in historic downtown is the Alabama Contemporary Art Center, which offers a collaboration and celebration of several different art forms. Creativity and innovation are uniquely combined in the center to build community through the arts.

While there are numerous exhibits, I strongly suggest “History Refused to Die”. This exhibit features over 75 works by 15 Alabama self-taught artists from the collection of William S. Arnett and Souls Grown Deep Foundation. Enjoy a half day at the art center and see firsthand the textured experience of African Americans in Alabama. Most notably, the works of the legendary folk artist Thornton Dial will jump off the walls and inspire your creative spirit. The exhibit celebrates the work of local artists, including artwork from Charlie Luca and Joe Minter. From the quilter to the one of the world’s most significant extant art environments this exhibit examines and exposes a rich history and the cultural influences of African Americans past and present. The Alabama Contemporary Art Center is a true celebration not to be missed while visiting Mobile.
