Olympic medalist Germaine Mason dead at 34

British Olympic silver medallist Germaine Mason is dead at 34. He died after a motorbike crash in Jamaica. According to The Guardian, was riding at the front of a convoy with a number of athletes, including Usain Bolt, Michael Frater and Ricardo Gardner, when he lost control of his bike on the Palisadoes main road in Kingston.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.


A high jumper, Mason won silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The Jamaica Constabulary wrote on Twitter: “Germaine Mason, 34, Jamaican-born athlete and former national high jumper, died in a motorcycle crash this morning.”


And Jamaica prime minister Andrew Holmes Tweeted out his condolences: “Our sincere condolences to the entire sporting fraternity.”
