Gunman opens fire on Republicans

A  gunman opened fire this morning at an Alexandria, Virginia, baseball park. According to witnesses, a White male with a long rifle was behind a dugout area while several well-known Republican congressmen were practicing for an upcoming charity baseball event.

The man reportedly fired dozens of rounds before security personnel returned fire. At least five people were injured in the shooting. Among the victims are Republican House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-Louisiana, two Capitol police officers, and a congressional staffer. It is reported that Scalise was shot in the hip but the extent of the injury is unknown.

A helicopter airlifted an unknown victim from the area as the extent if the injuries are unknown. According to law enforcement, the shooting is considered a deliberate attack.
