In the wee hours of Sunday, July 30, Ramell Campbell, 27 and Dominique Brown, 26 were killed in a shooting while driving on one of the city’s expressways. The two were headed home after a night out when their Chrysler 200 was riddled with gunfire, killing both occupants.
According to the Michigan State Police, the vehicle was struck by multiple shots and came to a halt on the shoulder of the interstate near Livernois Avenue. The expressway was closed down for nearly 10 hours while police conducted an investigation.
Campbell, a well-known underground artist who went by the stage name Mell, was just featured on Hot 107.5 FM Friday Night Cypher, along with Brown.
Brown, an aspiring rapper who performed under the moniker “Domo,” was the mother of a 1-year-old and 4-year-old and started rapping about a month ago, according to Bertha Matthews, the mother of the up-and-coming rapper.
“I don’t want to say she was targeted, I would like to say she probably was at the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Matthews.
The mother added, “My thing is if you have a beef with somebody, you should settle that with whoever you have the beef with — leave innocent people out of the equation,” Matthews said.
Matthews said her daughter was her best friend.
“You have taken my only daughter away from me and there’s nothing in this world that could bring my daughter back. I’m going to keep you in my prayers along with your family because everybody has their day and they will soon get theirs,” said Matthews.
Police are continuing to investigate the shooting, and believe that the shooting was not random, but was, in fact, the result of an ongoing feud.
Brown’s family has started a GoFundMe page to help support her children.
