The annual Spelman-Morehouse Christmas Carol concert  dates back nearly a century. It started in December 1927 – two years before Morehouse College graduate Martin Luther King Jr. was born, one year before the venerable Atlanta African American newspaper, the Atlanta Daily World, was founded, as well as the Harlem Globetrotters. The idea for the concert came from the presidents of the two institutions, John Hope of Morehouse and Florence Matilda Read from Spelman.

The holiday tradition continued at the 91st Annual Spelman-Morehouse Christmas Carol Concert on the Spelman College Campus. Led by Spelman Glee Club director Kevin Johnson and Morehouse Glee Club director Dr. David E. Morrow, the choir  performed a songbook of traditional and contemporary holiday compositions.

Here’s a photo album that showcases their delight. (Courtesy: Spelman College)
