The community of Troy, New York was left stunned by the discovery of a grisly murder scene during the Christmas holiday season.  Police kept some details of the case hidden as the investigation began but now they have released the names and pictures of the four victims. The family has been identified as Brandi Mells, 22,  her girlfriend Shanta Myers, 36, and Myers’ children Shanise, 5, and Jeremiah, 11.  Troy is located near the state capital of Albany and is about 160 miles north of New York City.

All of the victims were bound with their throats slashed according to investigators.  Capt. Dan DeWolf of the Troy Police Department said in a statement “The Troy Police Department is releasing these photos not only for the media but to further appeal to the public for any information regarding this horrific case.”

Jeremiah, called JJ by family and friends, was active at the local Boys & Girls Club and remembered fondly by the staff and others. A GoFundMe campaign “Funeral & Memorial for Myers Family” states:

“Jeremiah “JJ” Myers, an 11-year-old boy who tragically died alongside his family members just days before Christmas, was a member of the Troy Boys & Girls Club for the past six years. He was a quintessential “Club Kid” who impacted the lives of so many staff, children and teens, parents, and volunteers. We are shocked and deeply saddened by this tragedy. It will be deeply felt by all his friends at the Club and throughout the community.  We are fundraising to help alleviate the cost of funeral and burial services. Additional money will be used to provide Mental Health services to the kids, families and the community as well as setting up a scholarship and living money for the surviving child, Isaiah, 16. Every dollar helps. Please donate today.”

So far the campaign has raised $14,498 and has a goal of $25K. To contribute follow the link below:
