Since the tender age of three, Brandi Holmes has always had a love for beauty and fashion. Her original canvas was her coloring books where she would create lines and shadows. Now at the age of 36, Holmes has become a noted celebrity makeup artist. She is the founder and CEO of Simply Flawless by Brandi, which was established in 2005. She has had the pleasure of painting the faces of many celebrities as well as everyday women. With over 17 years of experience, she has ventured into the skin care world, creating her very own all natural skin care line, Simply Flawless Skin Care System. Her brand is one that continues to grow.

How did you first get involved with your business?

I started working at the flagship Mac store in Houston Galleria Mall at 19 years old. After one year there, I completely fell in love with the beauty industry and began on my journey into becoming a professional makeup artist.

What is your greatest achievement since starting your business?

I think my greatest achievement since starting my business is actually starting. Taking that leap into entrepreneurship is one of the scariest yet liberating leaps. To choose a route of the unknown is a huge faith walk and takes courage, but once you do it, it will be your greatest achievement.

What has surprised you the most about your business?

What has surprised me the most about my business is the work doesn’t stop. I was young when starting and wasn’t aware of all it took to run a business. I thought, “Yes I can take off every weekend!” Not! It truly is an everyday job, but when it’s your passion and you have a true love for it, it doesn’t feel like work.

Let’s talk skin care. How often should we exfoliate?

Exfoliating is one of the most important steps in skin care and should be done once a week and two times a week for oily skin. It removes the top dry, dirty layer of the skin and allows your treatment products to penetrate the fresh skin and work better.

Can you clean your face too much?

There is a such thing as cleaning your skin too much. It’s similar to hair. When you start to feel or hear the screeching sound, you’ve done to much. This causes your skin to overwork cause you have stripped the natural nutrients your skin creates, and it overworks to reproduce them. In over-cleaning your skin, you actually break out more.

Do you have a favorite skin care product you use?

My favorite skin care product is my Simply Skin Serum. Most people don’t see the importance of a serum. It is the only product that penetrates all three layers of the skin and completely helps improve color and texture. It will be your most expensive product in your regimen.

Tell me about someone who has influenced your decision to pursue your career?

In starting my career, I was influenced by a few people. But mostly it was the women I was making over. Makeup is a true confidence booster and I love providing something that makes women feel beautiful, confident and strong.

What might we be surprised to know about a skin care regimen?

Most would be surprised to know that a real skin care system consists of at least seven steps. You can always have more, but you need at least seven products to achieve the best results. My line is all natural, which is definitely the way to go and has seven steps, five of which are done daily. Learn about and shop my line at simplyflawlessbybrandi.com

List three skin care must haves.

I wish I could just pick three skin care must haves but it’s so hard. So I have to give you at least four.

1) A cleanser

2) A alcohol free toner

3) A serum

4) A moisturizer.

From my skin care line, that would be: Simply Oil Cleanser, Simply Skin Water, Simply Skin Serum and Simply Hydrate or Matte.
