The Atlanta Hawks are experiencing one of their worse seasons in franchise history. The team currently has the worst record in the Eastern Conference and can only look forward to the summer when they will likely get a top 5 draft pick.

But while the Atlanta Hawks are having a dismal season, the city’s hip-hop community continues to flourish. On any given night, Atlanta rap stars such as Gucci Mane, Migos, Future, T.I., 2 Chainz, or Jeezy can be seen sitting court side.

On March 2, the Hawks took on the NBA Champions, Golden State Warriors. Surprisingly, it was a competitive game from beginning to end. The Hawks’ star Kent Bazemore mishandled his dribble during the final seconds of the game allowing the Warriors to steal the ball and seal a victory.

Following the game, Kevin Durant handed his game jersey to Migos’ star Quavo. During post game interviews, Durant shared why he gave Quavo his jersey.

“It’s really respect for what their doing,” Durant said. “They’re doing some great stuff down here in Atlanta, pushing the culture. So it’s cool that they come watch us play and support us as basketball players.”

Quavo and Migos had a significant impact during NBA All-Star weekend in Los Angeles. Quavo won MVP of the celebrity game after scoring 19 points. And the Migos performed with Pharrell during the halftime festivities. Also, 2 Chainz hosted a celebrity game with Snoop, and Gucci Mane made several appearances while in L.A.

So even as the Hawks take L’s on the court, Atlanta’s hip-hop community continues to win as it remains the epicenter of hip-hop and youth culture.
