The Women Clothed in Strength Foundation was created by Kia M. Brown as a result of her daughter’s father being murdered in April of 2017. Kia discovered as she was grieving that there was no support group for people like her, meaning a group supporting the mothers of children whose fathers have been killed. Women Clothed in Strength in partnership with Hustle Mommies will serve as this support group.

The launch event was held at Diamond Sports Bar and Grill in Calumet Park, Illinois. A group of mothers and their supporters came out to fellowship, and share their experiences. Rapper Chella H was on hand to share her emotional ordeal and shared the way she has been coping over the years.

We spoke with Tenille Bell, a licensed professional counselor, and we asked why it is important for these women to seek counseling. She explained that it’s very important for people who have lost a loved one to seek counseling because it can be overwhelming. If its overwhelming that means it affects their lifestyle, it affects how they parent their children and it affects how they interact in their day-to-day activities. If that’s the case, they need to get help because that is a sign of depression. Counseling helps pull back the veil and helps an individual see what kinds of stresses are causing them not to work at their optimum potential. Over time, they will develop coping skills and access resources that will help them get through their day-to-day.
