Atlanta will ‘Elevate S.W.A.T.S.’ with public arts festival Oct. 14-21

ELEVATE Block Party. This event will feature “Beautiful Blackbird” presented by Alliance Theatre for the Very Young and Dancemakers of Atlanta and Emerging Artist Concert powered by ArtHouse. The event will be held at 2295 Benjamin E. Mays Dr. S.W., Atlanta. The party goes from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.


“Seeking The Garden Within – An Artists Tale in Self- Discovery” with Quilter Marquetta Johnson, presented in partnership the High Museum of Art and Atlanta City Studio, will be held at Atlanta City Studio, 2311 Cascade Rd. S.W., Atlanta. The event is free and open to the public. Performance times are 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Martha Redbone presents “BONE HILL: The Concert.” This is an interdisciplinary musical inspired by Martha Redbone’s family lineage in the Appalachian Mountains. It’s an epic story of one woman’s return to her homeland on Black Mountain and the coal mines of Harlan County, Kentucky, where her family has lived for centuries. Spanning the lives and stories of four generations of women in a Cherokee family, Redbone travels back in time to her own childhood and beyond into the memories and tales of her ancestors. It will be performed at Hillside International Truth Center, 2450 Cascade Rd. S.W., Atlanta and is free. Performance times are 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Sunday in the Springs. The Cascade Springs Nature Preserve, at 2852 Cascade Rd. S.W., Atlanta, will be the venue for a day of music and art. Featuring performances by Wren’s Nest storyteller Josie Bailey; The Atlanta Music Project; and outdoor photography exhibitions, “Seeking the Garden” by Marquetta Johnson and “The Families of Southwest Atlanta” by Thomas Dorsey. Performance times are 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Right In The Eye, the work of Georges Méliès with music from Alcoléa & Cie. Sponsored by the Atlanta-French Consulate, Right In the Eye is a movie based on the magical cinematographic work by Parisian illusionist and film director George Méilès. This presentation is accompanied by the musical performance by the instrumental French trio Alcoléa & Cie. The event will be held at The Church of Incarnation, 2407 Cascade Rd. S.W., and is free. Showtime is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
