Snoop Dogg was in Chicago at the Aire Crown Theater celebrating his birthday and acting in the stage play Redemption of a Dogg. The Arie Crown hosted two shows this past Saturday.

The rapper, 47, displayed his acting skills in the play written and directed by Je’Caryous Johnson. Tamar Braxton, Eric Benet, Omar Gooding, Demetria McKinney, Latoya London and Lil JJ shared the stage with Snoop as he helped to tell a story loosely based on his life.

Chance the Rapper made a surprise visit and performed a few of his songs to the delight of the hometown crowd. His performance blended into the production as Snoop came out and rocked the Aire Crown with a few of his hits.

The production allowed for the audience to watch Snoop navigate through his life choices as he struggled with his spirituality and his legacy.

Eric Benet and Tamar Braxton lent their strong vocals to this uplifting, feel-good work.

At the end of the first show Snoop was surprised with a cake on stage and was overwhelmed with emotion when Johnson spoke highly about his work ethic and dedication. The audience sang the Stevie Wonder version of “Happy Birthday” as Snoop danced along in a celebratory mood.

Redemption of a Dogg runs through March of 2019 closing out its run in Brooklyn, New York.
