Jay-Z’s Roc Nation brunch stands as one of the most coveted events during Grammy Awards weekend. The Black celebrity-driven affair reveals the essence of Black excellence in entertainment.


Held near the campus of UCLA on Feb. 9, the event began shortly before noon just as the skies cleared over Los Angeles following a brief rain. The brunch included a unique display of D’USSE activations including D’USSE XO truffles and D’USSE-infused gelato. Notable celebrities who entered first included Nipsey Hussle and Lauren London, Justine Skye, and singer Miguel and wife Nazanin Mandi.


A slew of hip-hop’s biggest artists joined the party in the afternoon. Rap hitmakers such as Diddy, Meek Mill, Travis Scott, Big Sean, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, and Swizz Beatz were all in attendance.

Powerful Black female voices such as Janelle Monae, Shanti Das, Epic Records president Sylvia Rhone, Normani, and June Ambrose were also present.

And the most celebrated Black woman in music of this generation, Beyoncé, made a grand entrance and while being swarmed by partygoers. Indeed, Beyoncé’s arrival was fit for a queen.

Overall, the Roc Nation brunch proved to be a celebration of Black culture and achievement.
