Drake’s blockbuster song “In My Feelings” hit popular culture like a bolt of lightning. The 2018 song hijacked the Billboard pop charts and ignited a cultural dance craze that swept the internet under the viral hashtag #InMyFeelingsChallenge. The participation reached countless celebs, including the likes of Will Smith.

Unfortunately, the beats to that song were stolen by Drake, according to artist Sam Skully in a new lawsuit that alleges the Canadian born star lifted the sample from him.

Skully, whose real name is Samuel Nicholas III, accuses Drake and his collaborator Big Freedia of jacking the beats to “In My Feelings” and another club banger, “Nice For What,” without proper attribution, nor compensation.

According to the filed legal documents obtained by TMZ, Sam Skully created the beat for his song “Roll Call” that came out in 2000. Skully accuses Drake and Freedia of sampling the beat without getting his permission.

Skully adds in the documents that he was unaware that someone had jacked the beats until he heard the song like the rest of world when “In My Feelings” torpedoed its way to the top of the charts.

Skully is suing several other record companies in addition to Drake and Big Freedia and is seeking damages from each defendant.

The ramifications of this lawsuit against Drake are enormous. “In My Feelings” is one of the biggest rap records of all time, staying No. 1 on the Billboard pop charts for an astounding 10 weeks and launching the dance craze known as the “Kiki Challenge,” “In My Feelings Challenge” or “DoTheShiggy.” The single was one of seven songs from Drake’s fifth studio album Scorpion to be in the Top Ten of Billboard Hot 100 charts simultaneously, breaking the record held by the Beatles.

“In My Feelings” also became Drake’s sixth No. 1 song, breaking the all-time record for rap artists, according to Billboard.
