Yvette Williams cooks up sweet success deep in the heart of Texas

Why is it important for women of color to work in leadership roles and decision-making capacities?

Women of color must access leadership roles to address the inequities and underrepresentation in our communities. We can address systemic racism with compassion and courage for those who look like us. It strengthens the powerful image of what you can aspire to achieve.

Why is it important for experienced Black women to reach back and help younger women of color?

Scripture provides a timeless mandate for us in Titus 2:3-5, which says older women should train younger women to help produce good character. We have already experienced life lessons we should share. It’s critical we instill values and priorities as role models for the next generation [and] that will prepare them to thrive as they mature.

What are three success habits you implement into your daily routine to maintain your success, sanity and peace of mind?

First, I begin with prayer and Scripture readings. I utilize creative and inspiring to-do list note pads … and I keep a time-management notebook to stay on track. Finally, I always enjoy tea time, which is my “breathe time” to reflect and maintain an attitude of gratitude.

As a successful woman in business, what is your proudest achievement?

Starting my own small business, Lady Yvette’s Teacakes. Making it a family affair involving my husband and young adult children through phases of business development has been very rewarding and fulfilling.
