Pop goddess Rihanna said she could not stand the thought of feeling like a “sellout” when she turned down the NFL’s offer to perform during the Super Bowl halftime show this past February.

The nine-time Grammy winner and record-breaking singer said she refused to perform out of loyalty to Colin Kaepernick. The former NFL quarterback has been unofficially exiled from the NFL since first sitting, then kneeling, during the playing of the national anthem before games in 2016.

In the process of explaining herself during a recent interview with Vogue, Rihanna seems to have shaded the man who first signed her and set her on the path to her record-breaking career, Jay-Z. Hov came under fire after famously signing a deal with the NFL to handle future Super Bowl halftime shows as well as other NFL-related projects.

The “Rude Boy” and Umbrella” songstress was goaded into discussing prickly political topics during her Vogue interview.

“How deep you wanna get?” she asked.

“However deep you’re willing to go,” the reporter replied.

Bad Girl RiRi indicated that she believed she was being a good girl when she rejected NFL pleas to perform in order to stand in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick.

“Absolutely,” she says. “I couldn’t dare do that. For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.”

Do you believe that Rihanna purposely shaded Jay-Z with her statements?
