Kalilah Wright’s Mess in a Bottle creates conversation through clothing

Tell us about the Tee class.

I decided to develop something called the Tee class. We teach others how to actually create their own T-shirt company. I live in an urban neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland. Right now with COVID and everything else that’s going on in the world, our kids are on the street idle, and they have nothing and nowhere to go. So, for me, creating a T-shirt class is being able to give back to my community and helping people to create an income because there’s a lot of people who have lost their jobs recently. Right now is definitely a time where we are starting to understand ownership, and we’re starting to really understand why we need to put ourselves in the position to dictate our own future.

What Father’s Day gifts do you have?

We have a couple of different messages for fathers. One of the things we did explore this year was now we’ve created a “My Dad Was.” So, it says, “My dad meant the world to me…and still does.” I just really wanted to honor people who have lost their fathers, and that’s just a market that a lot of people are not tapping into. And I have a lot of friends even, due to COVID-19, [who] had their parents pass on, so this was my way of honoring them. We have funny, great messages for dads as well during Father’s Day.
