Hollywood luxury floral designer Maurice Harris lands new TV show (video)

I have so many interests and concerns, but I’m full of contradictions. Peter worked with me to help synthesize these ideas and figure out how to bring them together and create magic, a place to speak powerfully about our pain and the sacrifices that we make as creative people. There is a way to show beauty and vitality and aspirational things without being so esoteric like there’s no entry point. I want others to see how I see myself and how I celebrate Black creatives. We don’t normally get our shine, and we do not get the accolades that we deserve. 


Your work is extraordinary and beautiful. When you think back to your first significant installation, how did you and your team celebrate afterward? 


I was told as a child that girls get their ears pierced and not boys. So, after this crazy installation, we all went and got piercings together, and it was like this really beautiful liberating sign. It felt really good, and I felt like I had arrived.
