Comedian Eddie B. melds teaching and comedy while giving back

Do you remember the first joke you posted online that really made people take notice?

It wasn’t really a joke. It was me talking about going to professional developments. [Administrators] wanted me to keep going through these professional developments, and I was like, “I’m already professionally developed. Right?” That was the one that that took off. As a matter of fact, I named my tour after it, “The Already Professionally Developed Tour.”

When did you know it was time to shift from the classroom to making people laugh full time?

It was the pain. I developed a condition called Bell’s palsy because of the stress from teaching. They talked all that, “Oh, take all the time you need, Mr. Brown. You are no good to these kids if you are not healthy.” They said it until my sick days were up. Then they would call me [and say] my job was in jeopardy. That was a sad moment right there. That’s why I always give back to teachers. I was blessed to do well on my “Teachers Only” comedy tour. I know how it is. Every type of fund schools get never goes into the hands of the teachers. That’s why I always give directly back to teachers.

What’s next for you?

COVID set me back a bit, but I was blessed to be able to sign a deal for my first TV show on mainstream television. It’ll be entertaining, but it will also allow me to inform you. Many people don’t know what we go through, and I’m that guy to show them. I’ll be right in your living room, and we’ll have a chance to get all our stories out, and I love that.
