Comedian Katt Williams stopped by “The Joe Budden Podcast” this week and discussed the hot topic of the moment — cancel culture. Many comedians have voiced in the past that cancel culture has put shackles on their routines as some topics have become taboo and their comments too risqué as times have changed. In short, you can’t freely mock other races and groups without pushback from the public. Katt Williams told Joe Budden and his crew that cancel culture was needed and maybe some people weren’t that funny to begin with and used cursing and offensive language as their crutch.

“Nobody likes the out of bounds, but the out of bounds gotta be there or you’ll run up in the stands. Some of these things are for the benefit of everything. Nobody likes the speed limit but it’s necessary. Nobody likes the shoulder of the road but it’s there for a reason. My point is, people weren’t all that extremely funny when they could say whatever they wanted to say,” explained the Friday After Next actor.

The unapologetic comedian also stated that people should be sensitive of other people’s feelings and that disrespect and comedy aren’t the same.

“I don’t know what people got canceled that we wish we had back. Who are they? It’s done for the reasons it’s done for and it helped who it helped. If all that’s going to happen … we have to be more sensitive in the way that we talk, isn’t that what we want anyway? I’m saying, your job as a comedian is to please the most amount of people with your art. So if you wanna offend somebody, nobody took those words away from you. … But don’t call somebody this word when you know it affects all of these people. If these are the confines that keep you from doing the craft God put you to, then it probably ain’t for you,” Williams added.
