Dwayne Fields channels inner wild child in ‘Welcome to Earth’ episode

After realizing you were exploring with Will Smith, what went through your mind?
[In meetings] prior to going out on location, they didn’t call his name, they said, “Look, WS is going to be on set.” Down to the day that he arrived at the location and he shouts up, “Mr. Dwayne Fields,” and he slaps my hand and says, “I’ve wanted to meet you for so long.” I paused and looked at him, to make sure it was real. I couldn’t believe it was happening. But the moment that passed, it was just me and Will, it could have been me and my best friend, we were out in the natural world. We’re getting our hearts racing, pushing ourselves, reaching, and we’re going beyond those points.

What were some of your favorite moments filming?
So Iceland is a stunning place. It’s this dynamic environment that’s constantly changing. If it’s not the volcanoes and volcanic eruptions, it’s the ice carving out massive canyons and it’s the ice constantly moving as well. And I think I just loved being out there. You’ve got to give credit to Disney+, NatGeo [and] protozoa Newtopia for making this happen because they’ve shot this in such a beautiful way.

Their journey aired on Disney+ Dec. 8, 2021.
