The countdown begins as icons grace ‘The Color Purple’ LA premiere

The Los Angeles premiere of The Color Purple, held on Dec. 6, was a dazzling display of glamour and fashion finesse. The purple carpet brought out some of Hollywood’s finest including Oprah Winfrey, Alicia Keys, Halle Bailey and more.


The film stars celebrities such as Fantasia Barrino as Celie, Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery, Danielle Brooks as Sofia, Colman Domingo as Mister, Corey Hawkins as Harpo and Ciara as Nettie. Actress Phylicia Pearl Mpasi is set to play young Celie and Halle Bailey will be presented as young Nettie.


The evening highlighted some of the best looks on the red carpet including Grammy-winning singer Alicia Keys, who was a vision in a flowy tri-colored purple gown. Her look was a perfect blend of elegance and artistic flair.

Oprah Winfrey looked stunning in a lavender long-sleeved gown. The dress, which hugged her figure, was a testament to her timeless style and grace.


Halle Bailey, known for her bold fashion choices, wore a striking shade of red that made her stand out on the red carpet.

Grammy-winning artist HER opted for an ombré off-the-shoulder purple gown, a nod to the film’s title.

Ciara on the other hand, pregnant with her fourth child, looked radiant in a white cape suit with gold metallic accents highlighting her baby bump.

Niecy Nash and her daughter Dia served a combination of shimmer, fur and feathers, adding a touch of whimsy to the evening’s fashion parade.

The premiere was not just a celebration of cinematic talent, but also a showcase of some of the most stunning fashion statements of the year.

The 2023 release of The Color Purple, 38 years after the original film, is a significant cultural milestone, showcasing a musical style on film that resonates with audiences. It is set to hit theaters this Christmas, Dec. 25.
