Common is not ducking the smoke regarding the comments he made about his girlfriend Jennifer Hudson and the prospect of marriage.
The Chicago-bred rap icon, 52, first hinted in July 2024 that if he was going to finally get married, it would be with the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award winner) actress known as J-Hud.
On the “Today” show, Al Roker joked that Common was put in “the hot seat” while he was on the “Jennifer Hudson Show.”
Common simply flashed his red carpet smile and denied that J-Hud ambushed him with her inquiry.
Common said what he said
“I didn’t feel like that was the hot seat. I was just being true to who I was. It was the cool seat because it was really, just, man, I was telling my truth and that truth still is there.”
The American Gangster actor continued about Hudson, saying, “She’s just an amazing human being, beautiful person. I’m loving watching her on her talk show. I’m a fan. I watch her talk show.”
“In life, for me, I look for people in my life who are uplifting, who believe in a higher power, who treat other people well.
“I like that she’s busy too. That’s good for me too,” Common jokingly added.
Marriage has become a hot topic since Common said on “The Breakfast Club” radio show in July that he and J-Hud have a “really healthy and beautiful relationship.
“If I’m going to get married, it’s to her.”
Common, who has been promoting his album, The Auditorium Vol. 1, then appeared on the “Jennifer Hudson Show” in October, where the host joked:
“I heard you’ve been even out there talking about marriage,” J-Hud said. “What’s that about? I just happened to notice that.”
Common calmly responded, “You know what, you told me a quote that your mother said, ‘A man knows what he wants.’ I was saying my true feelings about, listen, Jennifer is the person.”
The Oscar- and Grammy-winning emcee added, “If I should be married, it will be to Jennifer Kate Hudson. I was just being honest.”
