The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has gotten involved investigating a shooting at Elizabeth City State University in which a 24-year-old man who was not a student was killed and six others injured.
According to a statement released by the North Carolina HBCU, the shooting happened early Sunday morning, following events for “Viking Fest.” The school enrolls more than 2,000 students and is located on the coast, some 60 miles southwest of Virginia Beach.

“The university is deeply saddened by this senseless act,” the statement read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all members of the Viking community affected by this tragedy.”
The NCSBI asked members of the public to submit “any information, videos or pictures” related to the shooting, which comes a little more than a week after a deadly campus shooting at Florida State University. Two people were killed and six others were injured at FSU. Florida authorities say a student and son of a local sheriff’s deputy allegedly opened fire on the university’s Tallahassee campus.
