Brandyn Tepper has always endeavored to perform at an elite level. As a former wrestler in high school and college, Tepper practiced overtime to stay ahead of the competition. Tepper continues to use that same work ethic as a master mixologist and owner of Cocktail Academy.

When crafting the perfect cocktail, Tepper approaches his new sport with the same precision that Dutch Masters applies to producing its quality cigars. That focused dedication is the only way to attain perfection.

“One of the things that I do is look for things to either read about or watch that will allow me to become a better entrepreneur, a better manager, and a better bartender,” Tepper says. “There was probably a stretch of three years where I was bartending six times per week. And if you do this, then you will get good at bartending. But that’s not to say that I’ve stopped learning. As a craftsman, you should be constantly pushing and trying to learn, and seeing what you can implement into your own craft.”

Pepper also looks to prominent mixologists to find inspiration on a new way to present his art.

“There are a lot of great resources, especially in my industry which is food and beverage,” Tepper says. “But there is a chef by the name of Rene Redzepi who I often research. He has a restaurant called Noma in Copenhagen and it’s one of the best restaurants in the world. What I like about him is the fact that he motivates his team and he motivates himself to do better.”

Pepper continues to work on finding new avenues to brand Cocktail Academy and offering the best cocktails in the city of Los Angeles.

“What I wanted to do was showcase how making cocktails has become the thing that I want to do for the rest of my life,” Tepper says. “I also provide a welcoming space where people want to have a great time.”
