Beats Music coming to iPhones

In a move that should surprise no one, especially after shelling out $3 billion dollars to acquire the brand, Apple recently announced that Beats Music will be installed on all iPhones via the iOS update this coming spring.

According to CNet, Apple plans to take on its biggest streaming adversary, Spotify, with the move.

With the streaming service — which could possibly do away with the Beats name — preloaded in all its devices, Apple is hoping to get a leg up on other competing services. Having its own subscriber-based service within the phone would create another revenue source and keep customers tied into the Apple universe.

Apple founder Steve Jobs was adamantly against the move into the market in the years before his death, stating that “people want to own their music.” But the format proved to be something Apple could no longer deny as indicators continue to point to listeners slowly but surely moving away from buying music and instead preferring to “rent” music through streaming channels.

Apple is hoping to have more luck with this latest venture than with iTunes radio, which thus far has failed in its attempts to make a serious run at Pandora.
