Back in 2009, the world was transfixed on the story of Nadya Suleman, a pregnant mother who became known as the “Octomom.” Through a dubious IVF procedure, the California woman had eight fertilized embryos implanted in her womb, which she eventually delivered. Suleman was already an unemployed single mother of six, living off government assistance at the time she decided to undergo the IVF procedure. It was impossible for Suleman to pay for the procedure herself and to this day she has not revealed how it was paid for.

When news of her pregnancy achieved national attention, Suleman was inundated with media requests, congratulations, and even donations. Most famously she appeared on the “Dr. Phil Show” and revealed that she had borrowed money to maintain her living standard and subsequently broke down to the host about the precarious state of her life. Dr. Phil promised he would give assistance to Suleman as she went through her pregnancy and birth but nothing has been detailed.

After her children were born, Suleman went on to star in a series of pornographic films and paid appearances as an adult entertainer that included stripping. Now, according to Suleman that life is over.

In an interview with Daily Mail, Suleman, who now goes by the name of Natalie, says that part of her life is behind her, although she does still receive government assistance and residual checks from her days in porn. Natalie’s first six children from IVF are Elijah, 16, Amerah, 15, Joshua, 13, Aiden, 11, and 10-year-old twins Calyssa and Caleb. The octuplets are Makai, Josiah, Isaiah, Jonah, Maliyah, Jeremiah, Nariyah and Noah; all turn nine in January, and are the only surviving set in the world.

After being convicted of welfare fraud in 2014 and sentenced to community service, she now works part-time as a substance abuse counselor. Suleman will soon write a memoir of her life to help her family and stop living paycheck to paycheck.
