Earlier this week, K. Michelle made headlines when she admitted after months of suspicion that she had indeed been in a secret relationship with actor Idris Elba. Yesterday, the singer spoke again about her relationship with Elba with talk show host Wendy Williams and she got candid about the rumors of her being his side chick.
While sitting down for a chat with Williams, the host held no punches as she questioned Michelle about what went wrong with her 8-month romance with Elba, who was also dating makeup artist Naiyana Garth, with whom he had a baby earlier this year.
“There was a situation. He has a child and I’m not going to get in the way of that. Y’all not gonna call me the home wrecker, call me any of that,” she explained. “Me, I desire a lot of attention and time and when there’s a newborn, you have to give your time and attention to [them].”
Michelle also addressed questions about her dating timeline with Elba and admitted that she knew about the baby when she got together with Elba.
“When I met him, I found out he had a woman pregnant,” Michelle admitted, though she added, “but I did not know the extent of the situation that was going on.”
Michelle says she came to the realization that she might be the side chick and she decided to leave Elba instead of be in a dysfunctional love triangle.
“I kind of looked up and I kind of was like the side chick and I kind of looked in the mirror and was like, ‘girl, you done paid a lot of money for this work, you can’t be the side chick now. Something is going on!’” Michelle explained.
Michelle also explained that she didn’t want to be bashed by the public for being a home wrecker with his new family.
Well, we’re glad that Michelle decided not to remain the other woman in Elba’s life. Besides her body work, we’d venture to say that she’s put in too much work as a person and an artist to be anyone’s side chick.
