After giving a candid interview on her battle with a skin condition, Tamar Braxton is shutting down detractors who doubt her condition. The mom-to-be, recently sat down with EBONY to detail her daily dealings with vitiligo—the color altering skin disease made prominent by Michael Jackson. Additionally Tamar addressed rumors that she was using bleaching creams to lighten her tone.

“Anybody with skin issues knows that that’s a very sensitive subject and that’s why I’ve never shared that I have vitiligo because I do,” Tamar told the mag. “I’ve always had it, since I was a young girl. It’s not as bad as others because everybody has it differently, but I’ve certainly had mine diagnosed. That’s why I tan. People say, “You bleach your skin!” But I tan just so I can have a better tone on my skin, boo!”

“It’s gotten worse since I’ve become pregnant,” she added. “If you shake my hand now, to me it’s more noticeable. But when you get diagnosed with a skin disorder, it’s hard. It does weigh on your self-esteem. It really does. But I’m done defending that. I’m not bleaching my skin and if I were bleaching my skin and I felt like saying so, I would but for the record, I am not.”
Shortly after the interview was released, a gossip rag posted photos of Tamar at the 2013 BET Awards press conference and doubted her vitiligo claims. “Tamar Braxton claims that she suffers from vitiligo (a condition that causes skin discoloration),  we have close up pics of her and it looks like she’s lying,” reported the rag. “She needs to go on Maury [Povich] with that mess.”

After obviously hearing about the article, Tamar took to Instagram to share photographs of her hands, which do appear blotchy, a childhood photo and a photograph of herself today.
