Montgomery County’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service 2024
Join us for our annual in-person event at theย Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center. Celebrate the legacy ofย Martin Luther King Jr.ย with a day of service and community engagement. Together, we will honor his teachings and work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society. Participate in various service projects and visit with several local nonprofits to learn more about opportunities to serve throughout the year. Join us as we come together to pay tribute to one of history’s greatest civil rights leaders. Let’s make a difference and continue Dr. King’s dream of a better world.
The event will include service projects and a volunteer fair fromย 12:30 PM โ 2:30 PM,ย doors open at noon.ย Service projects include the following family friendly activities:
- Assembling Bags of Hope and Cups of Cheer for community members in need
- Assembling “Snow Day” boxes with Meals on Wheels for homebound seniors
- Constructing craft kits for children in hospitals
- Recycled coasters for local senior centers
- Assembling hygiene kits and snack bags with Ayuda
- Decorating favor bags and keychains with Pop for a Cause
- and more!
You may not sign up for any particular project ahead of time.
Details:
–ย Check in starts at 11:30 AM and will take place on the upper and lower level of the Conference Center
– Please follow signs to park at the North Bethesda Metro – parking is free on this Federal holiday. Use the walkway under Rockville Pike to get to the Marriott.
– Students can pick up SSL forms at the MCVC/MCPS Table at the end of the event.
– This event will occur rain or shine (or snow!) unless a state of emergency is declared and we are asked to stay off of roads. Check this page for updates.

SSL hours are available. Students will receive 2 SSL hours for their time served.
Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the studentโs parent/guardianย and must be completed outside of school hours. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
By registering for this opportunity, you are pledging to continue to complete acts of service in the spirit of Dr. King.
