Fannie Lou Hamer was an African American civil rights activist who led voting drives and co-founded the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party.
Hamer coined the phrase: ‘I Am Sick And Tired Of Being Sick And Tired’
Viola Gregg Liuzzo was an activist in the civil rights movement in the 1960s. Although from Detroit, she was murdered in Alabama by members of the Ku Klux Klan for her efforts. She is the only known white woman to die in the Civil Rights Movement.
What both women had in common was the Southern Christian Leadership Conferences (SCLC).
Hamer and Liuzzo became famous for the part both played in fighting for voting rights.
One might say that they were quiet activists whose actions spoke LOUDLY!
