This year’s Forest Governance and Policy conference (previously known as Forest Legality Week) will take place in person at the WRI office in Washington, DC. The main panel sessions run from the afternoon of Tuesday April 30 until Thursday May 2. Side meetings and associated events will take place on Monday, Tuesday morning, Thursday afternoon, and Friday. An off-site reception will take place on Tuesday evening.
The event will focus on a range of topics including recent legislation in the US on corruption and financial crime associated with forests, innovations in traceability and transparency, in particular related to geolocation, uptake of early warning systems for deforestation by Indigenous People and local communities, an update on species and origin testing for wood and forest risk commodities with a focus on the Asia-Pacific, and a cross-regional comparison of Independent Forest Monitoring approaches.
Simultaneous interpretation will be provided for panels with speakers presenting in French and Spanish. However, there will not be simultaneous interpretation available for the entire conference.
