The opening will feature an exciting program, including the unveiling of the It Takes A Village Skatepark designed by Tony Hawk and McArthur Binion, and a performance by Detroit-Windsor Dance Academy at the Charles McGee Legacy Park. Additionally, in collaboration with Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD), the inaugural exhibition at the Shepherd will be a comprehensive survey of Charles McGee (1924–2021), one of Detroit’s greatest artists. The Little Village Library, curated by Asmaa Walton of Black Art Library, will welcome guests to their space within the Shepherd through a pop-up activation in partnership with the neighborhood’s non-profit letterpress printing facility Signal-Return and Progressive Art Studio Collective (PASC).
