The Reginald F. Lewis Museum is proud to announce its 2025 Black History Month celebration, a dynamic series of events showcasing Maryland African American history, culture, and contributions. This yearโs celebration takes inspiration from the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), which has set theย 2025 national theme as โAfrican Americans and Labor.โย This theme recognizes the integral role African Americans have played in shaping the nationโs labor history.
The museumโs Black History Month programming holds special significance as it coincides withย its 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of educating and inspiring through the stories of Marylandโs African American communities.

Kick off Black History Month with a powerful film screening and panel discussion exploring the legacy of Marylandโs Black watermen. Presented in partnership with the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET), this program honors Vincent Leggett, founder of the Blacks of the Chesapeake Foundation.
The film Waterโs Edge highlights the stories of unsung heroes who revolutionized the Chesapeake Bayโs maritime industry. Panelists Include: Dee Dee Strum,ย Interim CEO and President of Blacks of the Chesapeake, Captain Tyrone Meredith,ย Captain Tyrone Charters,ย Imani Black,ย Founder and President, Minorities in Aquaculture, and Noelle Gibson,ย maritime and cultural historian.

Celebrate the opening of the museumโs latest exhibition, TITAN: The Legacy of Reginald F. Lewis,ย presented by Grain Management and IMB Partners, sponsored by Neutron Engineering, and supported by Daniel L. Black. The day is hosted by the Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and Mr. Morgan State University, Xavier Washington. Visitors can explore the life and achievements of one of Americaโs most influential African American entrepreneurs through an interactive experience. The day includes guided tours, light refreshments provided by Johns Hopkins Hospital, a โTITAN of Industry Fireside Chatโ with Tarrus Richardson, of IMB Partners, and Jeff Johnson, an entrepreneur workshop for Kids: Restaurant Challenge with Paula Goddard,ย a Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. step presentation, and music by DJ Davy J.
