It turned out to be not much of a Hot Pursuit after all as Avengers 2 easily held off the Reese Witherspoon/Sofia Vergara comedy to retain the top spot at the weekend box office.

Despite a $110 million drop off from its opening week, Avengers 2: Age of Ultron still managed to beat Hot Pursuit by approximately $64 million by pulling in an addition $77 million. As the only new release to open in the top 10, Hot Pursuit fared moderately well with $13 million earned. The Age of Adaline held down the third spot with $5.6 million added to its total. Blockbuster Furious 7 placed fourth this week with another $5.2 million brought in. And rounding out the top five was the Kevin James’ led Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 which earned an additional $5.1 million.

Of note, the movies that placed 8-13 this week were separated by less that $600,000, including George Tillman Jr.’s romance The Longest Ride which placed 11th with $1.3 million and Kevin Hart’s Get Hard which landed at 13 with $1.05 million.
