DC Sweet Potato Cake is a bakery that is located in Washington DC. It is known for its legendary cakes and pies that uses sweet potatoes as its main ingredient. In 1988, baker Laurine Helen Lowery mailed her son, Derek Lowery, an age-old family recipe for a rich, moist cake made with fresh sweet potatoes and a decade later he began baking and selling sweet potato cakes from his car in and around the DC area. As the company started to grow, it experienced bumps and bruises that set the company back. In 2009, April N. Richardson Esq. the company’s Lawyer was asked to join the company as a Co- Owner and President due to her savvy leadership, ability to build teams, and turn around companies.
