Jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding is getting first-hand knowledge of what it’s like to feel the wrath of Justin Bieber’s obsessively loyal fans, who took to Wikipedia to attack her Sunday night after she beat out Bieber to win the “Best New Artist” Grammy.
The Beliebers, as they’re so affectionately – or rather wierdly – called, hacked Spalding’s wiki page and altered her bio with cruel lines like “She is a f—— retard!” and “JUSTIN BIEBER DESERVED IT. GO DIE IN A HOLE. WHO THE HECK ARE YOU ANYWAY?”
The hackers also changed her middle name to “Justin” and the racially insensitive “Quesadilla.”
However, a few Bieber haters came to Spalding’s defense with anti-Bieber lines like “HaHa Justin Bieber, you’re just a little boy with no Grammy for Best New Artist.”
While most people weren’t upset enough to wish death upon Spalding via the internet, most people were shocked by the surprising win.
Spalding, although heralded by music critics and legends like Prince, is relatively unknown to mainstream music fans while Bieber is a platinum-selling artist who now has a hit concert-biopic film, Justin Beiber: Never Say Never, under his belt.
Bieber himself has admitted that the loss was a major disappointment for him.
“I worked really hard these past few years and, you know, I’m not going to lie — I was disappointed,” he said before adding, “Bieber fans, don’t get too upset. Be happy.”
If only those crazy little tween fans would listen to their guru.
What do you think of all of the attacks Spalding has received since her win? Do you think she deserved the Grammy? –nicholas robinson
