craig ross jr. – for the love of it
Television and Film Director
While few people know who Craig Ross Jr. is, most of them are familiar
with his work. As a well-respected television and film director, Ross
has been able to tear down walls and position himself in circles that
most black filmmakers have yet to tap into. As his career continues to
take flight into the stratosphere of elite directors, Ross is intent on
not only pushing the limits of his craft, but also extending himself to
others like him who are struggling to crack this tough industry.
“The question that I always get is how tough is it really for a black
director to make it in Hollywood,” Ross begins. “And the answer is that
it’s not easy. But with any career, if you put in the time and effort
and are committed to the craft, then good things are bound to happen.”
Such has been the case with Ross’s career. While he’s been able to flex
his creative muscle at the helm of such feature films as Motives,
Hustle & Heat, and Blue Hill Avenue, Ross has also made a name for
himself on the small screen, having directed episodes for hit
television shows such as Cold Case, Standoff, and The 4400.
“I find pleasure in directing for both television and film,” Ross
explains. “I think for me though, you get more of a rush directing your
own feature films. That’s where you get to really take risks, and push
the limits of your creativity. I have a few projects on the horizon
that I’m extremely excited about where I’ll have the opportunity to do
just that.” –dewayne rogers
