Smiley’s annual conference covering the subject. This year’s conference
was entitled, “Jamestown – America’s 400th Anniversary: The African
American Imprint On America.” In the first special, shot on location at
Hampton University in February ’07, the panel discusses the link
between the nation’s first African American settlers 400 years ago and
the African American community of today. The panel participants include
Rev. Al Sharpton; actor/producer Tim Reid; astronaut Dr. Mae Jamison;
Dr. Cornel West of Princeton University; Lerone Bennett Jr., former
editor of Ebony magazine; Judge Glenda Hatchett; Congressman Keith
Ellison of Minnesota; former Virginia governor L. Douglass Wilder; and
