back to school celebration
Presi?One
week before students were scheduled to return for the 2007-08 school
year, T.I. and the K.I.N.G. Foundation held a back to school
celebration at Fred A. Toomer Elementary in Atlanta. During the
celebration, students participated in games and were given free book
bags, pencils and notebooks. The Dekalb County Health Department was
also onsite to and provided free dental, vision and general health
screenings, as well as immunization shots for the students.
The multiplatinum selling rap artist used the opportunity to motivate
the students on the importance of working hard in school. “I feel that
the importance of an education is a fact that needs to be stressed to
the youngsters today,” T.I. said. “I’m all about furthering the
education of the youth. That’s [what is] missing today. The kids in the
hood need help more than anybody else. That’s what we’re here for. They
had all summer to have fun, but it’s time for them to get their minds
ready to have a great school year.” –amir shaw
