This mini-series tells the story of the Cold War: from its beginnings
in the early 1950s up through the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
“The Company” begins on the first night as an espionage thriller,
conveying the early years of the CIA during the Cold War. The cast,
including Chris O’Donnell, Alfred Molina and Michael Keaton, is superb.
This episode shares a lot with Robert De Niro’s directorial effort, The Good Shepherd
in terms of mood and pacing. Night two is an action thriller, focusing
on the Hungarian uprising of 1956, which was quashed by Soviet
involvement, and the Bay of Pigs, in which Cuban rebels tried to oust
Castro from power. If that’s not enough stylistic variation for you,
night three is a psychological thriller. “The Company” is indeed an
eclectic offering. – forrest green III
