atlanta metropolitan college 14th annual fall convocation
Atlanta Metropolitan College held their 14th Annual Fall Convocation last week, welcoming new and returning students to the 2007-2008 school year. Founded in 1974 with an enrollment of 504 students, today AMC has seen rapid growth, boasting an enrollment of almost 2,000 students. Recognized as one of the top community colleges in the country, this year’s convocation celebrated AMC’s growing student body. Things kicked off with an empowering address from Miss Atlanta Metropolitan College, LaRhonda Harris, who stressed the importance of students taking advantage of the numerous resources provided by AMC. E. Keith Williams, the director of facilities and plant operations, let students in on the new technological and construction developments sprouting throughout the campus, which is located on Metropolitan Parkway in southwest Atlanta. Gary A. McGaha, AMC’s interim president, closed the event with a rousing speech worthy of a standing ovation from students and faculty, celebrating the school’s current achievements and future goals. “We have a tremendous amount to offer and this is an excellent opportunity,” said McGaha. “We are increasing our enrollment, we have more students participating in programs than ever before and we’re just excited about the college’s position at this time.” – gavin p. godfrey
