Bailiff, “Judge David Young”
As the “Judge David Young” show prepares itself to be one of the fresh
new programs in syndicated television, Tawya Young plans to add her own
special ingredients of individuality to the mix, making the show unique
in televised court programs. As the bailiff for the new court show,
Young serves as more than the judge’s right hand woman bringing more
than 11 years of court officer experience to the table.
A Brooklyn, N.Y., native and graduate of Hunter College, Young has
always had a passion for drama and was thrilled with the idea of fusing
the two together. “They asked for an officer who was quick-witted with
a sense of humor and it was actually one of my co-workers who had
called me and encouraged me to apply, and so I auditioned and they
called me back two other times, and I got the part,” adds Young.
A psychology and sociology major in college, Young uses her knack for
reading people as a tool both on the show as well as in her law
enforcement career.
“In law enforcement you need to know how to deal with people. You need
to know how to talk to people, how to diffuse situations, and
ultimately, how to better serve the public and it also showed me a lot
of social problems going on in our communities,” says Young.
With the “Judge David Young” show airing in 91 percent of the country,
expect to see Tawya Young doing what she does best on each and every
episode. “I have a lot of fun with it, the judge definitely involves me
a little bit more, so I look forward to educating people about the
court system,” she says. – jason thompson
