Manhattan, NY
On
a seasonably warm autumn day in lower Manhattan, the Jacob Javitz
Center was bustling with activity. The event? The 2007 Circle of
Sisters Expo – an annual event that gives women of color a chance to
fellowship, network and enjoy themselves in an environment of
sisterhood and love. Sponsored by WBLS-FM, WLIB-FM, and generous
organizations such as PepsiCo and Bacardi, the event is always a
welcome event for the ladies of Gotham. “These are women who are here
to show that they are smart, vibrant, and beautiful,” saidDaulton
Anderson, on-air announcer for WLIB. “And to support these types of
events [shows that] we are keeping that energy right here in the
community.” Celebrity guests like Steve Harvey, “Celebrity Fit Club”
star Dr. Ian Smith and more were on hand to join in the festivities.
New York’s largest event uniting women of color, the Circle of Sisters
event is a part of WBLS/WLIB’s overall mission: creating informative
and entertaining events for its listeners and professional service
partners. And judging from the reactions of vendors, celebs and patrons
– this year was a rousing success. “I come every year,” said Florence
Wyndham of Queens. “Me, my aunt, my daughters – we wouldn’t miss it for
the world!” – todd williams
